Awards in advertising are easy to win and hard to mean. This one recognises a founder whose influence has been built quietly, through two decades of work and one simple principle: the brand comes first.

There is a particular kind of leader who does not simply manage what already exists but imagines what could exist and then builds it. Not the ones who inherit great institutions and maintain them, but the ones who take something broken and turn it into something the world genuinely admires.

Rajesh Joshi, Founder of Chariot Productions Media Private Limited, better known as Chariot Media, is that kind of leader in Indian advertising. He did not inherit an agency. He built one, and in April 2025 the BIG FM Group named him Big Impact Creator of the Year at the Big Impact Awards. The recognition is worth a closer look, because of what it says about the person who earned it and the kind of work the industry should want to see more of.

The announcement came from New Delhi on 2 April 2025. The award acknowledged Joshi’s contribution to the advertising and media industry, and in particular the strategic vision and innovative approach that have shaped how brands engage audiences and reach them across 360-degree media verticals. It is a recognition for the thinking behind the campaigns as much as for the campaigns themselves.

That thinking has deep roots. Joshi was born and raised in New Delhi, one of India’s most important commercial and media hubs, and has spent more than two decades in advertising and communications. Over that time he learned the practical mechanics of media planning, buying and campaign execution, the unglamorous craft that decides whether a creative idea reaches the right people at the right moment.

He founded Chariot Media in November 2013 and serves as its Whole-Time Director. The agency was built to combine the capabilities of a full-service operation with the agility and personal attention of a founder-led business. Today it works across television, radio, print, outdoor and digital platforms, offering media planning, multimedia buying and releasing, creative strategy and integrated brand promotion.

The agency’s credentials give that work its footing. Chariot Media is accredited with the Indian Newspaper Society and registered with the Indian Broadcasting Foundation, Doordarshan and All India Radio. In an industry where trust is earned slowly, these approvals show an agency that has met the standards required to handle media on a national scale.

The idea at the heart of the agency is easy to state. Joshi has described it as building solutions around the brand’s objective, rather than making the brand fit a particular medium. It sounds obvious, yet many agencies still work the other way round, steering clients toward whichever channel or format they know best. An approach that starts with the client’s goal and works outward is what an integrated, 360-degree model actually means in practice.

It is also revealing how Joshi responded to the honour. In his remarks after the award, he said that true impact is never the work of one individual, and credited his team, his clients and an industry that keeps pushing for innovation. He described the recognition as a celebration of the creative energy that drives Chariot Media forward, not only of his own journey. Founders often say such things, but his words fit the collaborative, people-centred leadership style associated with his agency.

So why should the wider advertising industry pay attention? First, because the award recognises a model of agency leadership that puts clients’ objectives ahead of the agency’s convenience. Second, because it shows that a founder-led agency, built patiently over a decade, can earn national recognition without relying on spectacle. And third, because it points to what the industry needs more of: experienced strategists who understand every medium well enough to know which ones a brand genuinely needs.

For younger professionals entering advertising, there is a lesson in that path. Influence in this industry rarely arrives overnight. It comes from years of learning the craft, building credibility, and staying focused on the client’s success while the media landscape changes around you.

BIG FM’s decision to name Rajesh Joshi Big Impact Creator of the Year is, in the end, a story about impact measured in the right way. It is measured not by noise but by results, and not by one person but by the team and the clients who made the work possible. That is the reason the industry should be paying attention.
